  Aortic Regurgitation


Aortic regurgitation is leakage of the blood from the aorta, back through the aortic valve, into the left ventricle.
 
Symptoms

Rapid heartbeat
Shortness of breath, especially with exercise and sexual activity
Discomfort breathing in any position other than sitting straight or standing
Breathing difficulties during sleep, causing wakefulness
Sweating
Chest pains, especially when lying down
 
Risk Factors
Male
History of rheumatic fever, infective endocarditis, congenital defects, syphilis, chest trauma, ankylosing spondylitis
